More Than "Snickers & Stickers"
We are working to change the focus from being reactive, responding to what students do wrong, to being proactive by teaching and recognizing students when they engage in appropriate behavior. Positive behavior interventions help to create a learning environment where students, staff, and families feel appreciate, safe, and respected. Rewards assist staff in focusing on the positive, reinforcing the appropriate behavior, and assist students in making better choices.
Fostering Habits of Character
In the EL Education model, students' character development is equally as important as producing high-quality work and mastering knowledge and skills. Throughout their educational journey, students are working to become effective learners, ethical people, and contributors to a better world. Schools adopt Habits of Scholarship, which are a subset of Habits of Character that support students to become effective learners. They articulate Habits of Character that enable students to become ethical people, which include traits like respect, honesty, and compassion. They also articulate Habits of Character that enable students to contribute to a better world through service and stewardship.
All three aspects of strong character are essential for success in school and life. In the EL education model, all learning is character based. Students are on a mission to do work: work that is good in quality, good for the soul, and good for the world.
Our 8 Habits of Character: Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, Empathy, Compassion, Collaborate, Persevere, and Initiative
Second Step
Second Step is a program rooted in social-emotional learning (SEL) that helps transform schools into supportive, successful learning environments uniquely equipped to encourage children to thrive. More than just a classroom curriculum, Second Step's holistic approach helps create a more empathetic society by providing education professionals, families, and the larger community with tools to enable them to take an active role in the social-emotional growth and safety of today's students. It's a difference you can feel the moment you step through the doors to a Second Step school: a sense of safety and respect grounded in the social-emotional health and well-being of the entire school community.

Restorative Practices
A philosophy, not a curriculum or program, that focuses on building positive relationships and providing opportunities for community members to take responsibility for their behavior and their lives. At the heart of restorative practices is the belief that we are all in this together and that we are a community. Our classrooms meet as a crew every morning to have a morning circle. Here, we build relationships by learning more about each other.
